What's really being done to our NHS? How can people who care about our NHS find out, spread the word, and get the evidence they need to fight back?

 OurNHS openDemocracy is a campaigning journalism site that works to relentlessly expose the truth behind the spin. Our readable, expert coverage often breaks stories the mainstream media miss. Recent articles include government proposals for an inquiry into a pay-to-use NHS, the shocking truth behind the privatisation of cancer care, and the sell-off of hospital land – all of which were subsequently picked up by the Guardian and other media outlets.

 We work closely with all the major campaign groups and play a leading role ourselves in campaigns including those to stop the hospital closure clause, expose the NHS mandate, and to bring in the NHS Reinstatement Bill.

 We want an NHS that is:
  • Comprehensive – providing all the healthcare we need
  • Universal – providing healthcare to all those who need it
  • High quality – providing it through properly trained, properly rewarded staff
  • Timely – providing it without undue delay
  • Ethically run – respecting the need for evidence, consent, and privacy
  • Publicly funded – funded in the fairest, most efficient way, progressive taxation.
The international evidence suggests that if such a system is to be affordable, it must also be publicly owned.
